Chapter History

The Delta Pi chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon was originally founded at Penn State in 1960 and was re-chartered on December 10, 2016, after a 50-year absence from the University. Prior to being initiated, each sister took part in a two-month colonization process to establish the leadership, values, and goals of the sorority. As sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon, we strive to fulfill the original mission of our founders, "to provide a sisterhood experience rich with tradition, innovation, and opportunities for growth."

National History

On March 17, 1917, five courageous women attending New York University School of Law could not find a membership accepting of all backgrounds. So they formed Delta Phi Epsilon with the purpose of accepting all races and religions–one of the first non-sectarian, social sororities to do so.

Today, Delta Phi Epsilon just passed our Centennial year. Since our founding over 100 years ago, we have grown into a thriving organization with over 67,000 initiated members and 109 chapters located across the United States and Canada.

Finally, a statement from IHQ, "DPhiE has worked tirelessly to build and promote diversity, equity and inclusion among our international community, within our chapters and more broadly, the Panhellenic community as a whole. Much like our Founders, we have been tested throughout these efforts. Nevertheless, we stand by our belief in the power of sororities to provide safe, inclusive spaces where all feel welcome to be their true, authentic selves."
